How to install the Naviextras Toolbox?

1. How to download and install the Toolbox

The Naviextras Toolbox is a program, that enables you to install any free updates made available by the manufacturer of your navigation device, and to purchase a wide variety of map updates and extra content for your system. Once you have registered your navigation system to the Naviextras Toolbox, you can browse and purchase items that are compatible with your navigation device.

The Naviextras Toolbox is quick and easy to install. Before downloading the installer from the Downloads page, make sure that your computer meets these minimum requirements:

  • Data carrier with big capacity
  • At least a few GB of free disk space on your computer
  • Broadband internet connection is recommended
  • Supported windows versions: The three latest versions
  • Supported macOS versions: The three latest versions
  1. After downloading the installer, double-click on the (.exe or .dmg) file to start the installation.
  2. Select the language of the Installation Wizard
  3. To install the software, follow the instructions on the screen.

2. How to start the Toolbox

Click on the Toolbox icon on your computer to start the program. (In case of a macOS operating system, click on the Toolbox icon in the 'Application' folder or start it from the Launchpad.) You will be prompted with an offline welcome/connecting screen and the Toolbox will attempt to connect to our server.

If the connection is unsuccessful, you can quit, or retry the connection.

If the connection is successful, you will be asked to connect your data carrier or navigation device to your computer, if you haven’t already. If your device/data carrier is a valid (supported) model, you will be directed to the Home screen („Please log in or create an account”) . If the Toolbox is unable to recognize your device/data carrier, please contact our Customer Care team.

3. How to connect your device to the Toolbox

  1. Connect your navigation device or the data carrier received with the built-in head unit to your computer:
    1. If you have a PND (portable navigation device), in most cases you will also find a USB cable included in the box. Use this to connect your device to your computer.
    2. NOTE: with some devices, the connection can only be established if the device is in Mass Storage mode. Read the user manual of your device for detailed instructions.
    3. If you have a built-in navigation device, there are two methods for connection:
      1. SD card connection: if an SD card is provided with your Navigation System, insert it into the SD-card reader of your computer and wait until it is recognized.
      2. If the navigation is located in the internal memory of the head unit, a special tool might be required for successful connection. For further information, please check this list. If a special connection method is needed, you will find further information under your device model.
  2. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet and start the Naviextras Toolbox.
  3. NOTE: An internet connection is required for Naviextras Toolbox to verify if any updates are available for download, as well as for the download process itself.
  4. After successful connection, the Naviextras Toolbox will decide whether the connected device is supported and will load the Home screen.
  5. NOTE: this process may take a few minutes.
  6. If the Toolbox recognizes the device but does nothing, you will be redirected to a screen where you are notified that your device is incompatible. Toolbox might not recognize the data carrier at all, which also means that it is not supported. In this case you will remain on the Welcome screen („Welcome to Naviextras Toolbox!”) .

How to start using the Naviextras Toolbox?

1. How to register in the Toolbox

On the Home screen of the Toolbox, you can choose to:

  • log in by clicking on [Login],
  • register by clicking on [Register],

To register a new account, click the [Register] button

  1. Enter your first and last name
  2. Click on [NEXT] to continue to the next screen
  3. Enter your email address and click on [NEXT] to proceed. Upon entering the email address, it will be validated.
  4. If your email address is valid (not already registered with Naviextras, and has passed formal checks), you will be prompted to enter and re-enter a password of your choice. The password should be at least six characters long.
  5. The entered password will also be validated. If the password is valid, you will be asked to choose your country of residence.
  6. Scroll down and select your country of residence (this is required to issue the appropriate invoice with the proper VAT amount).
  7. Click on [NEXT]
  8. Please accept the Privacy Policy by clicking on [NEXT]
  9. After a successful registration, click on [CONTINUE]
  10. In order to verify your email address, please click on the confirmation link in the email that will have been sent to you. In case you cannot find the email, please check your Junk and/or Spam folders in case it landed there. After clicking the link, you will see a screen similar to this one.
  11. After a successful confirmation, you can log in to the Toolbox, using your credentials.

To log in to Toolbox:

To use the Toolbox (to buy updates or get access to free content) you need to log in. Once the Toolbox has recognized your device/data carrier, you are redirected to the Home screen.

  1. Click on [Login] on the Home screen
  2. Enter your (previously verified) email address and password
  3. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by clicking on [Forgotten password] and entering your email address. You will receive an email with a password reset link in it.
  4. Click on [LOGIN]. The email and password are validated, and you can proceed to the Home screen.
  5. Following your first login you will be asked if you wish to enjoy the benefits of signing up for our newsletters. We provide exclusive offers, notifications on new map releases and other content on a regular basis to those who subscribe to Naviextras Newsletters. By ticking the box, you subscribe to the newsletter according to the Privacy Policy.
  6. Click on [NEXT] to confirm your choice.

2. How to register as a Corporate User (for EU resident customers only)

Corporate Customer registration allows corporate users to purchase items without VAT, provided they:

  • are based in the EU, but
  • are not based in Hungary and
  • have a valid EU VAT ID.

If you choose to register as a corporate user, please edit your invoice address to include corporate user data, as follows:

  1. Click on [Settings] on the left popover menu bar
  2. Click on [My Account]
  3. Click on [Invoice address]
  4. Click on [EDIT]
  5. Click on [I AM A CORPORATE USER]
  6. Choose the company country from the drop-down list.
  7. Enter your Company name
    1. Enter your valid EU VAT ID number and click on [NEXT]. If the VAT ID is valid, you can proceed to provide your invoice address.
      1. If you see the message ’Your company data has been successfully saved. Your corporate status is under review.’, our Finance department will check the validity of the VAT ID entered. This may take up to 5 workdays. You will receive feedback by email.
      2. If you see the message ’Based on the EU VAT ID / TAX ID you provided, you are eligible for a VAT exempt status.’, you can purchase without VAT right away.
  8. If you entered an invalid VAT ID, you will be asked to check the VAT ID that you provided again, and you will also be informed that if you proceed to purchase updates without a valid VAT ID, VAT will be charged.
  9. If the VAT ID is rejected, you cannot purchase content without VAT.
  • Click on [NEXT], to accept the result, or click on [EDIT] to go back and retry the VAT ID validation.
  • Enter your invoice address. Use the buttons [NEXT] to move forward between invoice edit screens, and [CANCEL] to cancel the edit process.
  • 3. Home Screen

    After you have successfully registered a new account and logged in, you will see the Toolbox Home Screen where you have the following possibilities:

    Clicking on the [Available updates] button will list any free or paid updates to which you are eligible, but that have not yet been installed on your navigation system. If you see a screen advising you that “Your content is up to date” this means that there are currently no updates awaiting installation. Please note that this does not necessarily mean that you are using the latest maps available.

    The [Buy maps] button enables you to buy additional map updates for your navigation. The [Buy Extra Content] button enables you to buy connected services or other extra content (e.g., POI’s). You can get more details on available content types here: https://www.naviextras.com/shop/portal

    With the [Redeem a code] button, you can redeem a prepaid code which provides you an update free of charge, or a voucher code which provides a discount on purchases. To redeem a code please follow these instructions.

    The Language, Settings, and Help screens can be accessed from any page by clicking the menu on the left side of the Toolbox.

    There are 2 options to choose under Settings:

    Manage – allows you to backup, or restore a device, or clear the download cache.

    My Account – allows you to see your purchase and device history, view and edit your invoice details, and you can change your email address and delete your account.

    Subscribe to the Naviextras Newsletter under the My Account/Profile menu and enjoy its benefits! We send special offers, discounts and useful information on navigation map updates and new content to those who have subscribed.

    4. How to manage your Naviextras account

    On the Settings screen, click on the [My Account]. Then click on [Profile].

    On the Profile screen, you can choose:

    • to change your email address by clicking on [Change e-mail]
    • to delete your user account by clicking on [Delete user account]. In order to delete your account, please follow the instructions described below.
    • to change your newsletter subscription preferences by clicking on [Newsletter subscription]
    • If you choose to delete your account, a warning screen is displayed, asking whether you are sure you want to delete the account.
    • Click on [CANCEL] to cancel deleting the account. It will take you back to the Home screen.
    • Click on [DELETE] to delete your account. Upon deleting your account, you are prompted with an information screen and can click HOME to go back to the Home screen.

    5. How to get Help

    The Help screen can be accessed from any page by clicking the menu on the left side of the Toolbox.

    By clicking on the [Help] button, you can see the Help screen which contains several sub-menus:

    • Click on [Frequently asked questions] to access frequently asked questions and topics.
    • Click on [How-to guide] to access this guide.
    • Click on [About us and our policies] to view legal documents and other company information.
    • Click on [Customer Care] to contact our Customer Care Team through an online form. Upon submitting the form, our Customer Care team will receive your message, and will handle the issue.
    How to get updates in the Naviextras Toolbox?

    1. How to get free updates

    You can get a free update automatically provided you are entitled for one. If you have been notified by the retailer or dealer of your navigation system that you are eligible for a free update, then you can get it easily and start using it immediately. To do so, please follow the steps below:

    1. Connect your device/data carrier to your computer, start the Toolbox and log in. After this, Toolbox will automatically check whether you are entitled for any free updates. If yes, they will be offered for download and installation automatically. You can download them by following the instructions below. You can also find your free content if you select [Available updates] from the Home screen.
    2. Select the updates you wish to install
    3. Click on [INSTALL] to install the selected updates. Click on [LATER] if you want to install these updates later

    2. How to purchase updates

    You can also purchase new content for your navigation system.

    1. Go to the Home screen and click either on [Buy maps] or on [Buy extra content].
    2. Click on the content you want to purchase and add it to the cart, by clicking on [ADD TO CART].
    3. By repeating steps 1 and 2, you can add any number of content items to the cart. You can also remove unwanted items from the cart, by clicking the X at the end of the row.
    4. Please tick the necessary boxes, to activate the [CHECKOUT] button.
    5. After verifying your Invoice address, click on [PAYMENT].
    6. Please choose your preferred payment method and pay for your order.
    7. After a successful payment, you will be able to download the contents from the [Available updates] menu item.
    How to make or restore a backup of your navigation device?

    From time to time, it is useful to backup the contents of your navigation system to avoid losing any data in case of a hardware error or accidental data loss. This guide explains how to make a backup of your navigation system and how to restore a backup, should this be necessary.

    We suggest you create a backup in the following cases:

    • Right after you acquire your navigation system
    • Before using the Toolbox to update your navigation and its content
    • After updating your navigation

    In order to create a backup, please follow the instructions described below:

    1. Under Settings, in the [Manage] menu, please click on [Back up your device]
    2. Enter a name for your backup, so that you will be able to identify it later on and click [BACKUP]
    3. NOTE: Toolbox checks whether there is sufficient free disk space on your computer. If there is not enough free space, please free up some space, and restart the Toolbox.
    4. Wait while the Toolbox finishes the backup. This can take several minutes depending on the number of files on your data carrier.
    5. After the backup has finished successfully, click on [HOME] to return to Home screen.

    In order to restore a backup that was created previously, please follow the instructions described below:

    1. Under Settings, in the [Manage] menu, please click on the [Restore] button
    2. Toolbox will check if there is a backup available that can be restored.
    3. Choose a backup from the list.
    4. Click on [RESTORE].
    5. NOTE: you can restore your device only if you have previously created a backup.
    6. Please wait until the download and install process is finished. This can take several minutes.
    7. Click on [EXIT] to quit Toolbox or [HOME] to go back to the Home screen.
    How to redeem a code in the Naviextras Toolbox?

    You can redeem a voucher or a prepaid code from the Home screen.

    1. Click on [Redeem a code] and enter the code in the box.
    2. Click on [USE CODE] to proceed. The Toolbox will check if the entered code is valid.
      • To return to the previous screen, click on [CANCEL].
      • If the code is valid, the server will check the code type, and redirect you to the appropriate screen.
      • If the code is not valid, a warning message is displayed.
